to 1770 Southern Cross, Queensland’s Ultimate Backpacker Retreat - Opened in December 2006. 1770 Southern Cross Tourist Retreat is more of an eco-resort than a backpackers, this excellent retreat is set on 6.5 hectares of bushland 1.5km out of town. The double rooms and four bedroom dorms are in clean, airy timber cabins (all with en suites), there's an open-air meditation sala (where you'll sometimes see visiting Buddhist monks), an ultra cool communal chill-out zone, kangaroos in the grounds, and a free shuttle bus to town. Bike hire is cheap or you can hire a scooter, and you can swim or fish in the lake. 1770 Southern Cross is a purpose built eco-friendly hostel located on a tranquil 16 acre block only minutes from the town centre and beautiful beaches of Agnes Water. Family owned and operated, we pride ourselves on offering our guests first-rate and friendly service, a clean luxurious environment and a holiday filled with unforgettable experiences and memories! Southern Cross currently consists of 5 cabins (10 rooms), a huge open plan common area including bbq and dining area, t.v lounge, games room, fully equipped kitchen, meditation/relaxation centre, and swimming pool. The surrounding gardens have been beautifully landscaped featuring many Australian trees and plants amongst hundreds of palms and bamboo, our furniture all made of solid local hardwood and teak and the venue decorated Balinese style. It is truly our own tropical paradise & the ultimate place to chill out!
